Day
Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103 bed community hospital located
in
Putnam, Connecticut. Providing for the health care needs of northeastern
Connecticut and nearby Massachusetts and Rhode Island since 1894, Day
Kimball is served by over 1000 employees and more than 125 physicians,
dentists and psychologists.
In coordination with its affiliated medical centers in Danielson and Plainfield, Day Kimball offers acute and general medical/surgical care, a 24-hour Emergency Department, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, hematology and oncology, cardiopulmonary and psychiatric programs.
The Day Kimball Family of Services
The Day Kimball family of quality healthcare services consists of Day
Kimball Hospital, as well as the following complementary organizations:
Day Kimball HomeCare
- specialized services provided in the home by healthcare professionals,
allowing the patient the comfort of familiar surroundings.
Day Kimball HomeMakers
- exceptional non-medical homemaker, chore, companion, personal care
assistance and respite services often enable elderly or disabled
clients to live
safely
in the familiar
and comfortable surroundings of their own homes.
Hospice and Palliative
Care of Northeastern Connecticut - Hospice provides
special care for terminally ill patients, with a life expectancy
of six
months or less, and
their
loved ones. Rather than to try to cure a patient’s disease, hospice
provides palliative care, focusing on providing pain relief and symptom
control.
Quality and Patient Safety: The Foundation of Day Kimball
Day Kimball believes that quality and patient safety are the foundation
of health care. Everything else - the advanced medical technology, the
new procedures, the human elements of caring and empathy - all rest upon
the bedrock of quality and patient safety. This commitment is practiced
throughout the hospital, and each employee has an important role to play
and makes a valuable contribution daily. Just a few examples of Day Kimball's
accomplishments include
Implementation of Evidence-based Pathways - for the
treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). In the ER, patients
with CAP are assessed and treated according to nationally developed
"pathways" which Day Kimball Hospital physicians had a key
role in developing.
Mediworx Medication Ordering System - a significant
investment in patient safety, this state-of-the-art program adds an
additional layer of checks to the increasingly complex system of ordering
and dispensing medications to patients in the hospital.
Expanded Behavioral Health Services - for children
at the Day Kimball Pediatric Center. This is in addition to improving
the availability of services by adding evening appointments and open
access scheduling.
Continuity of Care for Patients with Congestive Heart Disease
(CHD) - Day Kimball has developed an innovative preventative
and educational hospital and home care program to help patients better
manage their disease while reducing readmissions to the hospital.
These are just a few of the many ways Day Kimball Hospital focuses on
our patients' needs and enhance quality and patient safety. |
