The homemaker’s role is to help individuals remain independent in their home environment. A homemaker should be a responsible individual who relates well to people.

Homemakers are responsible for:

  • General housecleaning
  • Laundry
  • Grocery shopping
  • Errands
  • Meal preparation

Skills and abilities:

  • Have good home management skills
  • Able to be sensitive to the needs of clients
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Must have a positive attitude and desire to provide quality care

Companions

The need for a companion arises when a person is not able to be in his/her home alone, requires socialization or help with meals and safe guarding. A companion should be a responsible, dependable individual who relates well to people.

Companions are responsible for:

  • Socialization
  • Meal preparation and cleanup
  • Medication supervision
  • Playing cards or other games
  • Caregiver relief (respite)

Skills and abilities: 

  • Accept client’s lifestyles and attitudes
  • Able to be sensitive to the needs of clients
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Must have a positive attitude and desire to provide quality care

Personal Care Assistant

The need for a personal care assistant arises when a person in not able to maintain oral hygiene, bathing and personal care activities.

Personal Care Assistants are responsible for:

  • Bathing
  • Shampooing and drying hair
  • Dressing
  • Dental hygiene assistance
  • Toileting
  • Mobility and ambulating assistance
  • General housecleaning as needed
  • Laundry

Skills and abilities:

  • Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) is not required but welcomed
  • Must have previous experience providing hands-on care or one must complete Day Kimball HomeMakers Personal Care Assistant training class.
  • Sensitivity to the physical and emotional needs of the elderly and disabled
  • Must have a positive attitude and desire to provide quality care

Travel Companion

The need for a travel companion arises when our clients may no longer drive or need travel assistance.

Travel Companions are responsible for:

  • Medical appointments
  • Shopping and errands
  • Recreational outings

Skills and abilities:

  • A good driving record
  • Transportation using client’s car or employee’s car
  • A reliable, clean vehicle
  • Must have a positive attitude and desire to provide quality care

24-Hour Care Assistant

A 24-hour care assistant provides a clean, safe and happy home environment for an individual who can no longer live alone. Care is provided by a team of several care givers who work together to provide large blocks of time including overnights.

24-Hour Care Assistants are responsible for:

  • General housecleaning
  • Personal care
  • Medication reminder
  • Socialization activities
  • Safeguarding
  • Meal preparation

Skills and abilities:

  • Good communication skills to share information with the caregivers and team
  • Dependable
  • Reliable
