Volunteer in the Spotlight
Marilla S. Anderson
Marilla S. Anderson is in the spotlight this month. She has been a nurturer
most of her life. Rilla is a graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of
Nursing and practiced her profession for several years before moving to
northeast Connecticut, where she and her husband, Roger raised four children.
Now that her family has grown and moved to other parts of the country, Rilla
felt it time to involve herself in something new. She thought her nursing
skills rusty and out of date, so coming to Day Kimball Hospital as a volunteer
was a perfect match. What better way to use all those caregiver skills than
as a volunteer. In return, Day Kimball Hospital benefits from a wonderful
nurturing person. In 1993 she came to the hospital and began volunteering
as an escort. Twelve years later she still gets pleasure in what she does.
“
I find this work very fulfilling. I get out of the home, and I meet great
people to work with. This is a great hospital and the Department of Volunteer
Services does wonders with the people they have donating their time.”
Marilla and her husband own a home at Cape Cod as well as in Brooklyn. The
Cape is her favorite place on earth, where she spends her summers in her
yard or with a book at the beach.
