Day Kimball Hospital provides the best possible care for total hip and knee replacement, from pre-surgical education and preparation to post-surgical care and rehabilitation. Our comprehensive hip and knee replacement program has received two national distinctions for quality - The Joint Commission has awarded Day Kimball Hospital its Gold Seal of Approval for meeting high health care quality and safety standards in hip and knee replacement and Anthem Blue Cross Blue and Blue Shield has named the hospital a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement® for demonstrating outstanding quality of care and patient results in knee and hip replacement surgeries. We are the only hospital in the region to hold the Cigna Center of Excellence and The Joint Commission Gold Seal of Approval designations for hip and knee joint replacement.
Hip and Knee replacement surgeries involve the removal of diseased or arthritic bone to replace it with implants. These implants are made from the most current and durable surgical grade materials that allow the joint to move freely and with less discomfort, so you can return to a more active and healthy lifestyle.
Our team of associated orthopedic surgeons from The Center for Bone & Joint Care are esteemed experts in their field and are always abreast of the latest developments in joint care. Day Kimball Hospital’s Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) staff will work closely with you prior to surgery to administer thorough pre-surgical testing and to ensure that you are informed and comfortable about what to expect on the day of surgery. And physical therapy and occupational therapy services are available through our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation department to help you with strengthening exercises both before and after surgery, for the best possible recovery.
The combined expertise of our integrated care team and the availability of the latest technologies in total joint replacement surgery has allowed us to consistently reduce the length of our patients’ hospital stays while enhancing functional outcomes.
Joint Academy of Northeast Connecticut
We’re proud of our exceptional services and integrated team approach to hip and knee replacement surgery, and we want you to be an active part of that team. Research has shown that the more informed and active patients are leading up to surgery, the more likely they are to positively impact their own recovery and achieve the results they desire and expect. That’s why our patients who are having a total joint replacement participate in our Joint Academy of Northeast Connecticut, a program designed to provide information and education about the steps required to achieve a successful hip or knee replacement.
This comprehensive program will provide you with vital education prior to your surgery about how to prepare, what to expect during the procedure, and what you can do to aid your recovery after surgery. The program will also guide you through the PAT process and pre-surgical physical therapy.
Joint Academy education sessions are held at 2:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the Robert H. Field Conference Center at Day Kimball Hospital. Patients who have been indicated for surgery are scheduled to attend a session through the Center for Bone and Joint Care. Members of the public who would like more information on the procedures are welcome to drop in for the session as well.
