Cruisin’ for Cancer Care.

PUTNAM, CT – Day Kimball Healthcare’s 7th Annual Cruisin’ for Cancer Care recently raised $9,000 to benefit the Day Kimball Healthcare Deary Memorial Cancer Fund. Nearly 150 participants cruised 75 miles throughout Northeast Connecticut on motorcycles and in classic cars. This brings total proceeds raised from this annual event to more than $71,000.

Cruisers participated in the poker run and first ever Motorcycle Olympics. The Olympics was a contest of skill on an obstacle course. An abundance of prizes were awarded to the lucky winners including best poker hand, youngest and oldest bike riders, participants who traveled the farthest and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place judged cars. The ride concluded at the Thompson Rod & Gun Club where participants also enjoyed a chicken barbeque. William J. Stearns of Storrs, earned the most pledges for the event and won a Syracuse University football excursion valued at $700, donated by The Citizens National Bank. Norberto Gonzalez of Windham earned the second highest amount of pledges, and won the wheeled cooler filled with summer fun items valued at $200, donated by Putnam Walmart.

“Each of Day Kimball Healthcare’s events is filled with fun, laughter, generosity and a lot of heart,” said Pat Hedenberg, event manager. “Every time community members get together to support Day Kimball, they are essentially supporting each other because all monies raised remain local. It amazes me how selfless those in Northeast Connecticut are and how grateful we are at Day Kimball to be able to serve such a wonderful area.”
