PUTNAM, CT –Day Kimball Hospital recently housed, “Celebrate the Art. Celebrate the Hope,” a traveling art display making its way around the nation’s hospitals. Twenty pieces of inspirational art covered the walls of Day Kimball’s Hematology/Oncology Department where patients, employees and visitors could view the pieces and read about what inspired the artist. Eli Lilly and Company launched the Oncology on CanvasSM program in 2004 to honor the journey of those whose lives have been affected by cancer.
The exhibit helped bring awareness to the cancer care services provided by Day Kimball Hospital’s Hematology/Oncology Center. The center offers a wide range of services for people with blood disorders and cancers. This includes chemotherapy, biologic therapy, blood product transfusions, prevention evaluations and treatments, nutrition services, integrative medicine therapies, genetic counseling and testing, and cancer survivorship care. Patients have access to clinical research trials through the UMass Memorial Cancer Center. Dr. Jeffrey Gordon, Medical Director of Hematology/Oncology services at Day Kimball said, “I am very proud of the wide array of care and resources we can provide each person with a blood disorder or a cancer right here in our local community, while still being able to access specialized care through our direct affiliation with the UMass Memorial Cancer Center.”
