More than 900 runners, walkers, cyclists and volunteers participated, uniting to support the hospital's efforts to fight cancer. The start and finish location was at J.D. For years, Rick, Dan and Karyn have given immeasurable support to Deary Fund events and are very deserving of these awards.

“The 20th year celebration of Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Race, Walk & Ride was very special,” said Tori Bates, interim director of development at Day Kimball Healthcare. “The growth we've seen throughout the years with the addition of events, sponsors and participants is simply amazing. With the need for assistance by members of our community higher than ever, we are overjoyed to be able to give more money than we expected to the Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Cancer Fund this year.”

The event culminated the 2009 fundraising series for the Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Cancer Fund, bringing the 2009 grand total to just over $90,000. Events earlier in the year included Day Kimball Hospital's Guest Bartender Night, Cruisin' for Cancer Care, the Spring Gala and a wine tasting event hosted by Putnam Ford/Mercury and Godley Spirits.

The Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Five-Mile Race & Walk began in 1989 and has raised more than $700,000 to assist the citizens of Northeastern Connecticut who are battling cancer. The money has been given to assist with mammograms, ultrasounds, medications, travel and surgical procedures. In addition to helping to provide these services, money is donated to a scholarship fund for students who are pursuing a career in radiology.
