PUTNAM, CT
–In honor of Colon Cancer Awareness Month and Gastroenterology Nurses' Day at the end of March, Day Kimball Hospital will host an Endoscopy Open House on Friday, March 27 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Open House will be in the endoscopy suites on the first floor of Day Kimball Hospital. Colonoscopy procedures, which screen for colon cancer, are performed in Day Kimball Hospital's Endoscopy Department.

At the Open House, guests will have the opportunity to meet and greet with endoscopy staff, view the endoscopy facility, ask questions, see related videos and learn good colon health. Guests will also enjoy free refreshments and give-aways.

"Colonoscopies aren't as frightening as some may think," said Dr. Sherry Kroll, Internist. "Colon cancer is preventable through early detection. Education is extremely important and the Endoscopy Open House is a great way to learn!"

According to the Prevent Cancer Foundation, "Colon Cancer is equally common in both men and women — 148,810 cases will be diagnosed in 2008, and an estimated 49,960 people will die from the disease. It is also one of the most easily prevented cancers because it can develop from polyps that can be removed before they become cancerous."

To schedule a colonoscopy, a referral from your primary care physician is required. For more information about the Endoscopy Open House, call 928-6541 x2092.
