PUTNAM, CT
–Day Kimball Hospital announces that Jamie Scandalito, RN, BSN, of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), is the Hospital’s June employee of the month. The Employee Council, a group of 20 Hospital representatives, selected Scandalito as the employee of the month after reviewing various nominations from hospital management.

“I was shocked to learn that I was the June employee of the month,” said Scandalito. “It is really nice to know that my co-workers feel I deserve this honor. Everyone works really well together in the ICU and I am proud to work with such a great team.”

Scandalito began at Day Kimball Hospital in 1999 as an evening unit receptionist/patient care technician on the medical/surgical/pediatric floor. After finishing school at Worcester State College, Scandalito became a registered nurse and accepted a position in the Intensive Care Unit in 2000. Today, Scandalito is a Clinical Level III nurse and works on the third shift. A charge nurse during her shifts, Scandalito oversees LPN’s, takes part in quality improvement projects, assists with educational needs for nurses on her unit, and cares for patients. A well-respected nurse, Jamie’s newest challenge is cross training to the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.

John O’Keefe, ICU Nurse Manager, said of Scandalito, “Jamie is a great critical thinker. She is logical, compassionate and everyone loves working with her. She always gets the job done and has a good sense of humor.”

Scandalito resides in Pomfret with her husband and three children. She enjoys spending time with her family and camping. She takes great pride in her work and appreciates the flexibility that nursing offers her. “I really like to see my patients outside in the community when they are well,” said Scandalito. “Helping people heal is very rewarding.”

Day Kimball Healthcare employs over 200 nurses in various departments throughout the organization. Last year, Day Kimball’s nurses assisted in over 5,000 discharges, 2,500 one-day surgeries, 61,000 HomeCare visits and 3,000 operating room cases, among other responsibilities and procedures.
