Patients Rave About Day Kimball
Hospital’s Outpatient Sites
From Plainfield north to Thompson, with Dayville and Danielson in between, Day Kimball Hospital has its patients in
Northeastern Connecticut covered with its four affiliated health centers. These centers provide the same great care
as the main hospital in Putnam, with convenience throughout the region.
Thompson Pediatric Center
“I could never say too many good things about the Thompson
Pediatric Center,” says Emily Murphy, mother of 11-year-old
Danny and seven-year-old twins,Anna and Jacob.“It’s just as good
as going to the Pediatric Center at the hospital, and is convenient
for my family.”
The Thompson site, which is
just a 12-minute drive from
the Murphy household in
East Woodstock, is staffed by a team of board certified
pediatricians, pediatric nurse
practitioners and nurses.
These providers, many of
whom have special interests
in areas such as asthma and
adolescent health, emphasize
the importance of getting to know “their families,” and strive to
include parents and guardians in the treatment of their children.
“They always take such good care of us and go the extra mile
when it counts,” Emily says.“And they take the time to really
know who we are and what we need.” She recalls a time, last fall,
when one of her kids had the flu.“We went in and they only had
one flu shot available. Knowing that I’d
want the other two to have the shot, they
told me to bring them in after school that
very same day.” They had two more shots
ready and just like that, vaccinated the
other children.“Another time,” Emily
remembers,“I had broken my foot and
couldn’t drive for seven weeks. Of course,
one of the kids got sick. I was able to not
only get an appointment, but they were
fine with the fact that my neighbor would
be bringing him in; it was no problem for
them. My son was comfortable there even when I couldn’t be
with him,” Emily says.“And that’s so important when your kids
aren’t well – they need a place that’s not scary.”
Danielson Health Center
As a physician’s assistant, Elaine Ranhoff knows the importance
of a good bedside manner. So when she went to the Danielson
Health Center for her first mammogram, she appreciated the
attention she got.“The technologists there are fabulous!” she
says.“They were courteous and professional and they explained
everything they did and what they were looking for. They took the
time to answer all my questions. They were able to make jokes
and be serious at the same time and to me, that’s important.”
Elaine also loves the convenience of the Danielson Health
Center.“It’s in the next building over from my primary care
physician, so it makes it easy to go there for x-rays, blood
draws and other tests.”
Dayville Health Center
A patient at the Dayville OB/GYN Center,Missy Nichols is
comforted by the quality of care she receives from Dr. Leonard
Averill. In addition to office hours in Putnam and Dayville, Dr.
Averill is the chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Day
Kimball Hospital. With the history of a miscarriage, Missy trusted
Dr.Averill’s expertise and support when she became pregnant the
second time.“I went to Dayville because of Dr.Averill. Knowing
my past experience, he was honest with me and kept a very close
watch on me. I got a great education throughout my pregnancies.”
The Dayville Health Center has a fetal monitor, ultrasound
equipment and other state-of-the-art equipment that allows
doctors to perform the same tests and monitoring services that
are performed at the Putnam office.“It was so important for me
to see and hear that heartbeat every time I went in for a checkup,”
Missy says,“and they never put me off. I felt cared for.”
Now Missy has three children: her
three-year-old daughter, her sixmonth
old son and her eight-yearold
God son, for whom she cares.“Dayville is clean, well-run and
organized, just like you’d expect,
and the staff is so pleasant. They
know me by name and they know
my children by their names. They prove that ‘professional’
and ‘warm’ can go together.”
Plainfield Health Center
For Rose Audet, being able to go to the Plainfield Health Center
for rehabilitation services after knee replacement surgery was
wonderful.“They gave me a good workout. I knew it would be
painful but they were gentle at the same time. They made me feel
at ease and I felt that they really wanted me to get better.” Before
her surgery, Rose couldn’t walk without excruciating pain due to
osteoarthritis in her knees. After the surgery and rehabilitation,
she was able to resume her day-to-day activities without pain.
Claire Petrides goes to the
Plainfield Health Center once
a week to have blood drawn
because she’s on Coumadin, a
blood thinner that requires
patients who take it to have
their blood drawn regularly
for monitoring. She says it’s
just a 10-minute walk from
her house, which is convenient, especially because this 83-year-old
walks five miles a day! “When I first started on the Coumadin for
a pulmonary embolism, I was very skeptical and had a lot of
questions. The Plainfield Health Center went to bat for me and
made the necessary calls so I could get the information I wanted,”
Claire reports.“They are really special people because they’re
friendly and clinical at the same time. It’s reassuring.” |
