Letter From the President
Dear Community Members:
As the last leaves of Autumn tumble to the ground, the air gets noticeably
crisper and the hand of Winter readies to grasp the reigns from Mother
Nature, it is a great time for us to relax and set personal health priorities
before the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holiday season begins.
To help you get into the right mindset for developing or renewing a
healthy lifestyle, Day Kimball Hospital invites you to participate in a free
six-week program focused on weight loss, nutrition and exercise. The
seminars will be held on Thursday evenings beginning November 1,
excluding Thanksgiving. For further information visit www.daykimball.org
or call (860) 963-6384.
I also encourage you to read the wellness articles in this newsletter which
offer practical and expert advice on such things as battling depression
during the winter months when we’re spending more time indoors, and
keeping our waistlines in check even as we’re tempted by turkey feasts
and festive desserts.
And while the holidays are a time of joy, thanksgiving and celebration for
most, they also can be a time of sorrow and difficulty for some families
grieving the loss of a loved one. DKH offers a number of support groups
and services, some of which are listed on page 6 in a special section that
you can conveniently cut out and save for future reference.
So take advantage of the many ways DKH is reaching out to improve our
community’s health. Don’t let the onset of freezing temperatures dampen
your drive to get in shape, eat smart and stay healthy. Instead, use this
time of seasonal transition to take stock of your well-being and commit to
positively shaping your health through basic steps that will pay off during
the cold days that lie ahead.
From all of us at Day Kimball Hospital, best wishes for happiness and good
health during the upcoming holiday season!
Sincerely,
Robert E. Smanik, FACHE |
