News & EventsBrownie Troop #1193 of Pomfret Raised Funds for Day Kimball Hospital’s Oncology/Hematology Clinic
PUTNAM, CT – Brownie Troop #1193 of Pomfret recently made a $150 donation to Day Kimball Hospital’s Rose Bove LaRose Oncology/Hematology Clinic. The troop, 15 girls aged seven to nine, held various fundraisers including cookie and magazine sales to raise money for local oncology and hematology patients. Guided by co-leaders, Laurie Champany and Rose Fulchino, fundraising is an annual event for the Pomfret Brownie Troop, and collectively the girls decide where to donate their money. “Through our fundraising efforts, we are trying to instill in the girls at a young age the importance of giving back. After making our donation to Dr. Gordon in the Oncology Clinic, the troop had a real sense of pride that they had helped patients right here in our community,” said Mrs. Champany. Dr. Jeffrey Gordon, Medical Director of the Rose Bove LaRose Oncology/Hematology Clinic said, "Each of the girls of Girl Scout Troop #1193 did a fantastic job of working together to raise $150 for Day Kimball Hospital's Hematology-Oncology Clinic. What wonderful generosity! Everyone enjoyed their visit with us. The donation they gave will help us provide a food and beverage station in our waiting room. Even more important, their spirit of giving back to their community will help us care for people in northeast Connecticut who have blood disorders and cancers." A two-time cancer survivor herself, and a patient of Day Kimball Hospital’s Oncology Clinic, Mrs. Champany was pleased that the troop decided to keep their donation local, and help area patients. “Without any prompting, the girls unanimously decided to give to Day Kimball Hospital. We are all very proud of them.” In recognition of their hard work and persistence, Brownie Troop #1193 was treated to ice cream by Day Kimball’s Oncology staff. Prior to their donation to Day Kimball Hospital, the Brownie Troop conducted fundraisers for Tsunami victims and our troops overseas.
