Immunizations: Fact vs. Myth –
Day Kimball Hospital Hosts Childhood Immunization Lecture

Dr. Bronson Terry, pediatrician at Day Kimball Hospital’s Pediatric Centers and Danielle Baillargeon, MPH, immunization coordinator, will host a free lecture, Immunizations: Fact vs. Myth on June 27 at the Killingly Public Library.

PUTNAM, CT On Wednesday, June 27, Day Kimball Hospital will host a free lecture on Childhood Immunizations: Fact vs. Myth at the Killingly Public Library, 25 Westcott Road in Danielson from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.  Guest speakers, Dr. Bronson Terry, pediatrician at Day Kimball Hospital’s Pediatric Centers and Danielle Baillargeon, MPH, immunization coordinator, will discuss age appropriate childhood immunizations, facts, myths and answer questions.

“Vaccines are integral to the good health of our children,” said Dr. Terry.  “Thanks to modern medicine, vaccines have virtually eliminated many dangerous threats to our society including, polio, mumps and measles. Many of our grandparents lost childhood friends to polio, and luckily, many of our children have never heard of the disease. Vaccines and disease prevention are essential to maintaining public health, and helping prevent disease. After all, as healthcare providers, our ultimate goal should be to prevent disease, not treat it.”

“With a heightened awareness about childhood immunizations, parents and guardians can easily be overcome by the wealth of information available, especially on the internet,” said Baillargeon. “This lecture will help demystify immunization myths, and give parents factual information about the twelve immunizations recommended by the Centers for Disease Control.”

In addition to learning about the Centers for Disease Control recommended vaccinations, guests will also learn more about Day Kimball’s Immunization Action Plan (IAP) and the Connecticut Immunization Registry. The State of Connecticut initiated the IAP in 1992 as a way for local communities, agencies and health centers to develop and implement a broad-based plan to achieve national immunization coverage goals. The goal of the IAP is to improve immunization rates throughout Connecticut. The Connecticut Immunization Registry stores children’s immunization dates for parents’ future use.

This lecture is free and open to the public. Interested parents and guardians are invited to attend to learn more about immunizations and speak with the facilitators. Light refreshments will be served. To register, please call Day Kimball Hospital’s Corporate Communications Office at (860) 928-7141 by Friday, June 22.
