News & EventsThe American Red Cross will host a Blood Drive at Day Kimball HospitalPUTNAM, CT – The American Red Cross will host a blood drive at Day Kimball Hospital on Friday, May 2, 2008. The drive will be located in the Hospital’s Robert H. Field Conference Center. All donors are asked to enter the Hospital through the rear laboratory entrance. We would like for Connecticut to be self-sufficient in terms of blood supply,said Ann Harford, a representative from the American Red Cross. We import (from other Red Cross states), about 15000 units a year to keep our 31 hospital inventories at a comfortable level. The Red Cross is trying to collect enough blood from CT residents to meet the needs of every Hospital.” Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 lbs. All donors are required to provide acceptable proof of identification. Beginning two days prior to donating, drink plenty of fluids, such as water or juice and allow eight weeks between donations. To register for an appointment to give blood, please contact Day Kimball Hospital’s Corporate Communications office at 963-6384. Interested donators can also visit www.bloodct.org to receive more information on donating blood. Day Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103-bed community hospital in Putnam. Day Kimball has been in operation since 1894, and provides for the health care needs of Northeastern Connecticut, and nearby Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
