News & EventsKaren Safin, LPN, of the Pediatric Center Has Been Named Day Kimball Hospital’s May Employee of the Month
PUTNAM, CT – Day Kimball Hospital announces that Karen Safin, LPN, of the Pediatric Center is the Hospital’s May employee of the month. The Employee Council, a group of 20 Hospital representatives, selected Safin as the employee of the month after reviewing various nominations from hospital management. “The Pediatric Center has been a wonderful place to work,” said Safin. “I am honored to be chosen as the employee of the month. I really enjoy what I do and will continue to work as hard tomorrow as I have every other day.” Safin joined Day Kimball in 1974 as an LPN, after attending Windham Regional Vocational Technical School. She provided direct patient care for ten years on the Medical/Surgical Unit, the Maternal Child Health Unit and in the Pediatric Center. Taking a break at that point, Safin remained per diem at Day Kimball Hospital in addition to working at the Danielson Medical Associates until the year 2001 when she accepted a position in the Hospital’s Pediatric Center. Safin is described by her colleagues as an experienced nurse with the ability to flawlessly handle multiple tasks in a demanding environment. Suzanne Gervais, Practice Manager for the Pediatric Center, said, “Karen’s individual commitment to our group effort at the Pediatric Center helps make us a great team. Karen always comes in with a smile and a bundle of energy. When it comes to problem solving, you will often hear ‘ask Karen’. Karen wears many hats on our team and her willingness to help anyone and anything that is asked of her makes her a true asset to the Pediatric Center.” Safin’s hobbies include reading, knitting and dancing. She currently resides in Pomfret Center with her husband of 27 years and has two daughters. Day Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103-bed community hospital in Putnam. Day Kimball has been in operation since 1894, and provides for the health care needs of Northeastern Connecticut, and nearby Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
