After Winter Break, Senior Dances are Back!

In the 2006 dance season, a good time was had by all!  Seniors are anticipating another fun and wonderful season starting up on Wednesday, March 28.

PUTNAM, CT– Day Kimball HomeMakers and Day Kimball Hospital Center for Healthy Aging, in conjunction with Christopher Heights of Webster, Massachusetts, are pleased to announce that the Big Band Ballroom Dancing will resume on Wednesday, March 28 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Putnam Lodge of Elks on Edmond Street.  The dances will continue from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of every month though October.

“The senior dances have meant so much to the sixty or so seniors who come every month,” said Susan Esons, Executive Director of Day Kimball HomeMakers.  “Our seniors come from an era where going to Saturday night dances was the thing to do.  Now they have an evening venue to go to where they can socialize and dance, and reminisce about fond memories.”

Esons continued, “Seniors have told us that dancing is so therapeutic, even if they’re just listening to the music and watching. There are always a lot of smiles in the room.  Dancing gets us moving and makes everyone feel young again.”

All senior citizens are invited to participate for a free night out, and no reservations are required!  Music is provided by Luney Tunes DJ.  Singles and gentleman dance partners are welcome.  The Putnam Lodge of Elks is located on Edmond Street, exit 96 off of Interstate 395, and is handicap accessible.

“It is a myth that seniors don't want to go out at night.  They love to have a place to go for the evening, especially if dancing and good music are involved.   Many do not want the night to end. Line dancing and disco are also popular where everyone can join in. A good time is had by all,” concluded Esons.

For the 2007 dance season, volunteer help is welcome.  If interested in volunteering, please call Susan Esons at (860) 928-5441.
