Day Kimball Hospital Announces the 2007 Susan Chilkott
Memorial Scholarship

PUTNAM, CT- The Day Kimball Hospital Philanthropy Committee announces that it is accepting applications for the 2007 Susan Chilkott Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to individuals who reside in the thirteen towns of Northeastern Connecticut and are pursing a career in healthcare. Eligibility is open to residents of Woodstock, Thompson, Ashford, Eastford, Pomfret, Putnam, Chaplin, Hampton, Brooklyn, Killingly, Canterbury, Plainfield and Sterling.

This scholarship was named for Susan Chilkott, the director of nursing at Day Kimball Hospital from 1937 to 1959. During this time, she also served as a director of operations for many special service departments. The scholarship was founded in 1987 to honor Ms. Chilkott for her dedication to the Day Kimball Hospital community.

“Dedicated to the service of Ms. Susan Chilkott, this healthcare scholarship assists students of Northeastern Connecticut with the financial burdens of higher education,” said Joan Graham, RN, and philanthropy
committee member. “For those who are interested, careers in healthcare offer great professional and
personal satisfaction. The Susan Chilkott Scholarship helps local students gain access into a field of growth
and opportunity.”

In 2006, five students from Northeastern Connecticut were awarded scholarship funds. Recipient Eric Bates,
of Putnam, is currently enrolled at Rhode Island College, majoring in nursing with a specialization in critical care and emergency services. Recipient Joshua James Pratt, of Woodstock, is currently attending the University of Connecticut, and is studying kinesiology with a major in exercise science. Recipient Cortney Hansen, also of Woodstock, is pursuing a major in physical therapy at the University of Hartford. Recipient, Tracy A. Chrzanowski, of Putnam, is enrolled in the registered nursing program at the Community College of Rhode Island. The final recipient, Kristine Noel Person, of Pomfret, is a student at the University of Connecticut and is pursuing a career in speech-language pathology.

The application period for the Susan Chilkott Memorial Scholarship is February 15 through April 15, 2007.  Interested applicants are encouraged to contact their high school guidance office; call the Day Kimball Hospital Philanthropy and Corporate Communications Office at (860) 928-7141; email vbates@daykimball.org; or download an application at www.daykimball.org/philanthropy.
