PUTNAM, CT – On Thursday, January 25, Day Kimball Hospital’s Thompson Pediatric Center was awarded by the State of Connecticut Immunization Program for achieving a 97% immunization rate for children born in 2003. This achievement indicates that 97% of Thompson Pediatric Center’s patients were vaccinated on-time, an outstanding accomplishment since children require nearly 20 shots by The State of Connecticut Immunization Program developed this recognition system to acknowledge medical practices “The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has set a The Thompson Pediatric Center proudly displays the State’s plaque in its patient waiting area, and this achievement is indicative of the Pediatric Center’s team work approach to patient care. The primary care provider in Thompson is pediatrician, Dr. Krista Matsen, and support staff includes Lorraine Laperle-Bibeault, RN, and Ruth Palmer, practice receptionist. Christine Vallee, Director of Physician Practices shared, “Immunizations can protect children from many serious diseases, and many immunizations require more than one dose before children are protected. Making sure each child is up to date is a team effort - parent and provider.” Vallee continued, “It is important that each child receive all the required immunizations on time. The Thompson Pediatric staff should be proud of their efforts to insure that the children seen in their office are up-to-date with their vaccines; and the parents and families in the community should know that their children's health and well-being are the Pediatric Center's staff top priority.” The Thompson Pediatric Center is located at 415 Riverside Drive in North Grosvenordale and is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information about childhood vaccinations, or to make an appointment, please call (860) 928-1141. The mission of the Immunizations Services Program is to reduce disability and death resulting from diseases that can be prevented through vaccination. Initiated in 1992, The Connecticut Immunization Action Plan Program, IAP, assists communities to develop and implement a broad-based plan to achieve national immunization coverage goals by involving all interested groups concerned with children's health. The IAP Program continues to be successful in conducting programs to reduce vaccine preventable disease morbidity and to increase childhood immunization levels before children reach their second birthday. Day Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103-bed community hospital in Putnam.
