George Laventure, Respiratory Therapist, Has Been Named Day Kimball Hospital’s February Employee of the Month

George Laventure, respiratory therapist,
is Day Kimball Hospital’s February Employee of the Month.

PUTNAM, CT Day Kimball Hospital announces that George Laventure, BS, CRT, is the Hospital’s February employee of
the month.  The Employee Council, a group of 20 Hospital representatives, selected Laventure as the employee of the month after reviewing various nominations from hospital management.

“This award would not be possible without the help and cooperation of a great team! We’re like family in Respiratory Therapy,” said Laventure. “Everyone on the night shift works so well together. We all rely on each other for the care of our patients. We’re also proud to have developed strong relationships with the physicians and nursing staff.”

Laventure began his career at Day Kimball Hospital in July of 1978 as a second shift respiratory therapist.  Shortly thereafter, he joined the night shift staff where he has remained ever since. Laventure is a graduate of Worcester State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. Laventure studied human anatomy, chemistry and physiology. He then went on to earn his Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Manchester Community College.

Having worked at Day Kimball for 30 years, Laventure is a familiar face on nights. His colleagues shared that he is well known for his “can do” attitude and his technical skills. He has a kind, caring attitude towards his patients and fellow employees. His calming manner allays patient’s fears as he explains procedures and expectations. His colleagues concluded that Laventure is an exceptional therapist and a great asset to Day Kimball Hospital.

“George is a dedicated, long-time employee at Day Kimball Hospital,” said Carol Smith, RRT, clinical manager of Respiratory Therapy. “His enthusiasm and demeanor with co-workers and patients is worthy of this recognition. This honor is a true representation of the type of individual George is, and it is a privilege to know and work with him.”

Laventure added, “I came to Day Kimball Hospital rather than going to a larger institution because I am able to practice all areas of respiratory care. We treat all ages from premature births to geriatrics. We care for patients with asthma, lung disease and those in emergencies. Working in all areas helps to keep my skills sharp. I also enjoy teaching others in the hospital about respiratory care.”

Laventure was integral in the start-up of Day Kimball Respiratory HomeCare, neo-natal mechanical ventilation and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Day Kimball Hospital will host a celebratory reception in honor of Laventure on Tuesday, February 26. His family, friends and co-workers are invited to attend.

George Laventure is 56 years old and lives in Fabyan with his wife, Judy, of 32 years.  The couple has two children, Ryan and Alison. Alison just completed her education as a Physicians’ Assistant at Springfield College in Springfield, MA.

Day Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103-bed community hospital in Putnam.  Day Kimball has been in operation since 1894, and provides for the health care needs of Northeastern Connecticut, and nearby Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  Day Kimball Hospital is served by more than 1,000 employees and more than 150 physicians, dentists and medical specialists.
