News & EventsDay Kimball Hospital Staff will Venture to Mongolia To Help Establish Medical Practices
PUTNAM, CT – Three Day Kimball Hospital staff members will be traveling to a remote region of Mongolia from September 27 to October 6, 2007 to help administer healthcare and establish medical records for the area’s impoverished children. Along with three other healthcare professionals, Dr. Marc Cerrone, pediatrician at Day Kimball’s Pediatric Centers, Rachelle Davis, RN, and Jessie Hay of Medical Records are specifically venturing to Mongolia because there is virtually no access to healthcare in the remote regions. “This trip will provide us with a chance to serve an area that is completely neglected,” said Dr. Cerrone. “We will take our medical knowledge and skills that we’ve learned throughout the years and apply them in an underprivileged country.” The medical team will land in Ulaanbaatar, the capitol of Mongolia, and then travel 300 miles into the Gobi Desert, where they will establish their medical site. Since this region’s people are nomadic, and do not have established homes, the team will treat children and orphans when they visit feeding centers for nourishment. In addition to performing medical examinations, the team will administer vaccinations and establish medical records for the other healthcare professionals who continue to volunteer their time at the medical site. By working near the feeding center, the team will also get a better idea of the children’s diet and nutritional needs. To help supplement the cost of the trip, the team is holding a dinner and benefit concert this Saturday, August 18 at the Gwyn Careg Inn at 48 Wolf Den Road in Pomfret. The event is black tie optional and will provide hors d’oeuvres, dinner, concert featuring the popular group, Voices, and a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit the Mongolia Found and contributions are tax-deductible. Guest tickets are $75 per person and may be purchased by calling 860-928-5018. If you cannot attend this event, but would still like to make a contribution, checks may be made payable to The Mongolia Fund, c/o High Pointe Church, 1208 Thompson Road, Thompson, CT 06277. Please include “The Mongolia Fund” in the memo line. Day Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103-bed community hospital in Putnam.
