PUTNAM, CTSunday, August 5 marked the success of the 6th Annual Ernest A. Reali Memorial Golf Tournament.  The Annual fundraiser drew 128 golfers who swung, drove, and chipped their way to the 18th hole at Foster Country Club in Foster, Rhode Island.  Hosted by the Hewitt family of Brooklyn, the tournament raised more than $3,500 doubling last year’s donations for the Rose Bove LaRose Oncology-Hematology Program at Day Kimball Hospital.

“Obie and Lori Hewitt and their family and friends, once again have hosted a wonderful golf tournament in memory of Ernest Reali,” said Dr. Jeffrey Gordon, Director of Hematology and Oncology Services at Day Kimball Hospital. “Each year the tournament attracts more golfers and raises more money for the Rose Bove LaRose Oncology and Hematology Center at Day Kimball Hospital. Everyone who attended the tournament had a fun time at the Foster Country Club.  All of the money raised stays local in the community so that all of us in the Hematology-Oncology Center can do what we do best: provide quality care for the people of Northeast Connecticut who are battling blood disorders or cancer. Thank you Obie and Lori!”

In addition to the tournament, Obie and Lori Hewitt, their daughters Crystal and Kayla, and Lori’s sister Kim Haight and mother Pauline, also organize an annual guest bartender night, with proceeds benefiting Day Kimball’s Oncology Program.  This year’s guest bartender night was held on March 7 at JD Cooper’s and raised more than $1,700.

For the past three years, the Ernest A. Reali Memorial Golf Tournament has benefited the Rose Bove LaRose Oncology-Hematology program at Day Kimball Hospital.  In previous years, proceeds benefited other causes such as the AMVETS as well as Ernest Reali, who was personally able to play in the tournament’s very first year at the Brooklyn Country Club in Brooklyn, CT.

“Once again I am pleased to say that the Ernest A. Reali Memorial Golf Tournament was able to make a great contribution to the Rose Bove LaRose Oncology-Hematology Program at Day Kimball,” said Tori Bates, Interim Director of Philanthropy at Day Kimball Hospital. “I played in the tournament this year and in addition to being for a wonderful cause, the day itself is just plain fun. I am already looking forward to next year’s tournament.”

Next year’s tournament will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2008, at the Foster Country Club.
