Day Kimball Hospital Appoints Douglas Waite, MD to Vice President for Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer

PUTNAM, CTDay Kimball Hospital announced the appointment of Douglas Waite, MD, as the Vice President for Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Waite's new role will include the oversight of the areas of Quality and Risk Management, Infection Control and the Medical Staff Office, effective September 1, 2007.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to have an expanded administrative role at Day Kimball,” said Dr. Waite.  “This is an excellent community hospital with a top notch medical staff, professional and ancillary staff, and leadership team.  I welcome the chance to further my involvement in meeting the healthcare needs of the people of Northeastern Connecticut.”

Dr. Waite has been a member of the Day Kimball medical staff since 1997.  He continues to conduct an in-patient consultative infectious disease practice and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

"As a long-time leader at Day Kimball, including service as former Medical Director, Dr. Waite brings to his new role invaluable experience and a deep understanding of the hospital," Day Kimball Hospital President & CEO Robert E. Smanik said.  "Additionally, Dr. Waite's credentials as an infectious disease physician and his steadfast commitment to patient safety and quality of care are tremendous assets that will serve him well in this important position."

Previously, Dr. Waite has held the positions of Director of Infectious Disease, Director of Medical Affairs and the Medical Director of Quality Improvement.  Dr. Waite attended New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ and completed his internship, residency and fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA.
