News & EventsThe American Red Cross will host a December Blood Drive at Day Kimball HospitalPUTNAM, CT – The American Red Cross will host a holiday blood drive at Day Kimball Hospital on Friday, December 28 from 12:30 to 5:45 p.m. The drive will be located in the Hospital’s Robert H. Field Conference Center. All donors are asked to enter the Hospital through the rear laboratory entrance. “This is the most difficult time of year for blood donation because the holidays are so busy,” said Ann Harford, a representative from the American Red Cross. “In the state of Connecticut, we have to import blood from other states to meet the demand from the Hospitals and we are about 15,000 units short this year.” Donors must be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 lbs. All donors are required to provide acceptable proof of identification. Beginning two days prior to donating, drink plenty of fluids, such as water or juice and allow eight weeks between donations. This year, all presenting donors will receive a free long sleeve Holiday T-Shirt. To register for an appointment to give blood, please contact Day Kimball Hospital’s Corporate Communications office at 963-6384. Interested donators can also visit www.bloodct.org to receive more information on donating blood. Day Kimball Hospital is a non-profit, 103-bed community hospital in Putnam.
