News & EventsDay Kimball Hospital Introduces a New Bi-Monthly Support GroupPUTNAM, CT – Beginning October 15, Day Kimball Hospital will host a new bi-monthly support group titled “Healthy Lifestyles.” The group is scheduled to meet Mondays from 6:30-7:30pm in the Hospital’s RHF Conference Room 2 on the following dates: October 15, October 29, November 12 and in RHF Conference Room 3 on November 26 and December 17. Designed to be a peer to peer support group for those trying to become healthier, “Healthy Lifestyles” was created by Donna Amoroso and Elaine Turner, RN, BCH, and Day Kimball Hospital’s Community Education Specialist. After losing over 160 lbs, Amoroso felt the need to help others with their weight loss struggle and took the idea of a support group to Turner. In speaking of her reasons for losing the weight, Amoroso said, “I just knew I had to do something or else I wasn’t going to be alive anymore. My heart was failing me, I couldn’t really walk, so I started praying to God for the strength to change my life.” As Amoroso began making small changes in her eating habits each week, the weight started to come off. She then realized that becoming healthy was about changing her lifestyle and not just her diet. Amoroso remembers, “Every aspect of my entire life has changed. I really want to try and help others because I truly believe that when you’ve been blessed, you should pass it on.” The “Healthy Lifestyles” support group is free and open to the public.
