Over the last decade, Day Kimball Hospital has made a substantial investment in expanding the cancer care services it offers to the community. In addition to building new facilities and purchasing new technology, the hospital has addd a number of preventative, diagnostic, treatment and after care services to assist cancer patients.
In the important area of prevention, nearly 200 local women without health insurance or with inadequate coverage receive early screening mammograms or Pap tests through the Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Program or the hospital’s “Deary Fund” every year.
New facilities for detection services at the hospital include the Doris Madeira Endoscopy Suite and the beautiful Day Kimball Hospital Women’s Board Mammography Center.
Day Kimball offers cancer patients an extremely high level of treatment services. A team of skilled and experienced surgeons perform minimally invasive surgeries in the hospital’s state-of-the-art operating rooms, including sentinel node lymph biopsies and immediate, post-mastectomy breast reconstructions. The Rose Bove LaRose Oncology Center provides a wide range of chemotherapies.
Options for after care include a Breast Cancer Support Group and, if needed, the special medical, psychological, social and spiritual care of the highly regarded Hospice and Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut.
The Rose Bove LaRose Oncology Center:
Day Kimball Hospital offers outpatient consultation and treatments for patients with cancers or hematologic conditions (certain blood disorders) through the recently renovated Rose Bove LaRose Oncology Center. This rapidly growing center enables patients to receive advanced chemotherapy treatments close to where they live without a trip out of the area to a major medical center. The center is staffed by two board certified Hematologist/Oncologist who are also on staff at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center. A caring team of registered nurses certified in oncology, dietician, social worker, patient care technician, and support personnel complete the staff. Treatments provided include chemotherapy, biotherapy, transfusions and injections. An affiliation with the UMass Memorial Cancer Center gives patients access to the newest chemotherapy treatments including all treatments offered at this nationally recognized cancer center.
Patients are referred to the Rose Bove LaRose Oncology Center by their surgeons or primary care physicians.
