CT (Computerized Tomography) ScanningCT scanning is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses low doses of x-rays
to perform a variety of head, body and biopsy examinations. What to expect during your visit/procedureImage exam time for CT scan of the head is less than 20 minutes CT scans of the chest, abdomen, and pelvis are less than 30 minutes. Some studies require an injection and certain patients will require laboratory testing be performed in advance. The ordering physician will notify the patient of this when ordering the exam. Patients will be called in advance to verify their appointment, location, and times. Printed results will be available to the patient’s ordering physician three to four days after the procedure has been performed. The ordering physician will provide specific study information and preparations relative to the procedures that they are requesting. Legal guardians need to be in attendance of any patients under the age of 18 for studies requiring injections and for patients who cannot sign or comprehend consent or screening forms. If a patient needs an interpreter or is hearing impaired, please let us know in advance and the department will make appropriate arrangements prior to the study. Read all preparations carefully. Bring all requisitions or paperwork that the ordering physician has given you to the test. Bring a list of current medications you take. Plan to arrive at the facility or registration area 15 minutes prior to exam time. Most results will be reported to the ordering physician three to four days after the procedure has been performed, it may be one to weeks before you have the results. Stat exams are called or faxed. All tests will only be performed with the written request of a physician. Patients will receive two bills, one from Day Kimball Hospital for performing the procedure and one from Team Physicians of CT for interpreting the results.
