Psychiatric Services

Day Kimball Hospital offers comprehensive mental health services including emergency psychiatric assessments, inpatient psychiatric treatment and outpatient mental health counseling.

Emergency psychiatric evaluations are provided for patients who are in crisis by a team of master level clinicians and are available through Day Kimball Hospital’s Emergency Department 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Psychiatric Inpatient Unit accepts individuals from age 13 and older for treatment. This intensive therapy unit provides comprehensive psychiatric evaluation and individualized treatment for mental health patients admitted to the unit. A multidisciplinary team collaborate daily, providing personalized treatment directed toward crisis intervention and stabilization of patients. The patient’s family, community, social networks, environment, culture and spiritual beliefs are all considered in the development of these individualized treatment plans and in the delivery of care.

The Psychiatric Inpatient Unit is a 15-bed locked unit that operates
24-hours a day, seven days a week. It accepts both voluntary and involuntary patients. Patients may be admitted through the Emergency Department at Day Kimball Hospital, through other local emergency departments as direct admissions or as a voluntary admission. Call 860-928-6541 at ext. 2549.

The Mental Health Clinic program, located in the Community Services Building next to the hospital, provides short-term, individual, couples and group therapies, medication assessments and follow-up. It also provides psychiatric evaluations and medication management of anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, mood stabilizer and anti-psychotic medications. For more information call (860) 963-6385.

Whether inpatient or outpatient, please bring a list of medications you are currently taking.

Please present insurance cards for initial visit. Most major insurances are accepted.

Directions – Inpatient Unit

Second Floor, Day Kimball Hospital,
320 Pomfret Street, Putnam, CT

Enter the hospital through the main Visitors Entrance. Take the main elevator to the second floor. Take a right off of the elevator. The Psychiatric Inpatient Unit will be on your left hand side. It is a locked unit, so you will have to ring the buzzer for admittance.

The Mental Health Clinic is located in the Community Service Building adjacent to the Hospital’s Visitor Entrance. Use the front entrance of the Community Service Building and the reception desk is located on the left.
