Pulmonary Services for Lung DiseaseNortheastern Connecticut has a consistently higher rate of lung diseases, such as chronic bronchitis, asthma, and emphysema, making it an important health concern for Day Kimball Hospital. To meet the community’s need for diagnostic and treatment programs for residents living with lung disease, Day Kimball Hospital has taken an aggressive stand by developing a first-rate Pulmonary Services department. This department offers a wide range of physician, diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation services for patients suffering from chronic lung disease. In 2002, the Pulmonary Services department welcomed Dr. John Day, Jr, a board certified pulmonologist, to the hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Day was previously in private practice in Worcester, Massachusetts and on the medical staffs of the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital. Dr. Day’s extensive background in diagnosing and treating chronic lung disease is an excellent addition to the department’s wealth of expertise. Diagnostic tests available at the hospital through the Respiratory Services Department include pulmonary function tests to determine the level of airflow obstruction and arterial blood gas tests to measure the amount of oxygen in the blood. Day Kimball’s Pulmonary Services department is complemented by the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, an innovative program of education and supervised exercise to assist patients in living as active lives as possible. The hospital also provides assistance to smokers who wish to quit through a weekly Smokers Support Group. Services ProvidedInpatient consultation, diagnosis and treatment, pulmonary rehabilitation and various support groups. A referral from your primary care physician is necessary. |
