The Sleep Disorder Center
What to expect during your visit/procedureYour sleep study is done in a comfortable bedroom setting designed to make you feel at home. Your room has a queen size bed, comfortable chair/ottoman and cable television with VCR. A sleep technologist will apply small electrodes, respiratory belts, a nasal cannula and an oximeter probe to monitor your sleep patterns and movements. Movements will also be monitored by digital video equipment. Since two studies are performed nightly, you may have time to relax, read or watch television before ‘Lights out’. The sleep technologist will monitor both patients from a separate control room for a minimum of 6 hours. During this time, we can hear your requests and speak to you through an intercom system designed for sleep centers. Restroom requests are common and easily taken care of. Generally patients are awakened between 5 and 6am so that you may shower and be ready for your day by 6:30am. Patients that need to be out earlier for work or school can be accommodated. Important reminders/things to rememberWe ask that you bring any medications that you may need and something comfortable to sleep in. Please try to avoid caffeine, naps, hair gels and hair sprays the day of your test. Report to registration 15 to 20 minutes before your appointment time so that insurance information may be updated. Testing will be scheduled by the Sleep Disorder Center after receiving a requisition from you physician. If you have any special needs or requests for testing please let us know as soon as possible so that we may make the necessary arrangements for you. A report will be sent to your physician within two weeks of testing. Your physician will contact you with the results. |
