PUTNAM, CT
–Day Kimball Hospital's Deary Memorial Cancer Fund received over $15,000 from the 1st Annual Deary Spring Gala and Auction that took place on Saturday, March 14, 2009. Almost 200 people attended the gala purchasing over 100 auction items.

"The night was perfect," said Karen and Mark Kaylor, Gala Chairpersons. "Our committee is very proud to be a part of the Deary Cancer fund because every penny stays local and we are happy to do things for our community."

Dedicated to Richard Franklin who passed away on April 10th from cancer, the gala was held at the Gold Eagle at the Laurel House and offered dinner and dancing with music from JJ Tunes. A basketball signed by the Celtics 2008-2009 team, a trip to Las Vegas with limousine transportation, Red Sox tickets with limousine transportation, a time share donated by Tom and Teddy Deary as well as a NY Giants football signed by the 2008-2009 team were among the evening's largest auction items.

The 2009 Day Kimball Hospital Deary Memorial Race, Walk, & Ride Ambassador, Scott Spalding, was introduced for the first time at the gala. Spalding is a Junior at Woodstock Academy and is the youngest ambassador to date. He was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a cancer of the bone or soft tissue in 2006.

Planning for this event began in November with a 12-person committee. The entire event is created through the generosity of local businesses and companies who donate items to support this cause.
