Good Grief Group for Children and Teenagers | Spring 2019

April 23, 2019

GOOD GRIEF GROUP
for children and teenagers

Spring 2019 Series
Tuesdays, April 23 – May 28
5:45 pm – 7:15 pm
Christ Church
Route 169 | Pomfret

The Good Grief Group is a free family bereavement service that supports school age children and teens (ages 5-16) and their families who have had a loss through death.

Participants will learn healing ways to cope with their grief and emotions through age appropriate group activities such as creating memory boxes and collages. The goal of the Good Grief Group is to support participants to not feel alone in their grief and that it is ok to feel sad and cry.

Confidentiality is encouraged in the group so that participants feel safe to talk and share, if they choose. To best support the children and family members, it should be at least 3 months since the death occurred. A supportive adult MUST accompany each child/teenager.

The group is led by two facilitators, who have been trained in children’s bereavement and support groups, and will be assisted by at least 6 volunteers (depending on the size of the group).

The meeting schedule will be as follows:
5:45 pm – 6:15 p.m. *Supper (donated by local restaurants) while families arrive.
6:15 pm – 6:30 p.m. Opening ceremony for all family and staff.
6:30 pm – 7:00 p.m. Age appropriate group activity. Adults have own group session.
7:00 pm – 7:15 p.m. Sharing of activity and closing ceremony for all family and staff.

Registration is required by April 16. (Due to planning and volunteer scheduling, anyone who misses this sign up deadline will be placed on the list for the Fall 2019 session, dates TBD.) Attendance will close after the second week of the session.

For more information, or to register, contact
Suzon Warner, LPN/Bereavement Coordinator at (860) 928-0422 or 1(800) 664-2442 ext. 213

If the death was violent or tragic in nature, we can help by providing a referral to a counselor so the child(ren) may get the support that is needed. This group format does not provide crisis counseling or individual counseling.

*Please let us know during registration if you or your child/teen have any food allergies.
