The Smart Choice for Safe, Proven, Reliable Results

We understand you have many choices when it comes to orthopedic surgery, including robotic assisted surgery; that’s why we think it’s important that you’re provided all the facts.

While other hospitals may offer robotic-assisted orthopedic surgery (“makoplasty” for knee or hip surgery, for example), this is not accepted as the standard of care, as there has been no evidence yet that it results in improved outcomes for patients. That’s why many highly regarded hospitals have opted not to use the technology at this time.

In keeping with our high standards for ensuring the best and safest care for our patients we do not use it either, and won’t until there is a compelling benefit to our patients to do so.

We believe that when it comes to providing the best in care, our results speak for themselves.

An Exceptional Care Team

Our team of associated orthopedic surgeons are esteemed experts in their field and are always abreast of the latest developments in joint care. Day Kimball Hospital’s Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) staff will work closely with you prior to surgery to administer thorough pre-surgical testing and to ensure that you are informed and comfortable about what to expect on the day of surgery. And physical therapy and occupational therapy services are available through our Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation department to help you with strengthening exercises both before and after surgery, for the best possible recovery.

The combined expertise of our integrated care team and the availability of the latest technologies in total joint replacement surgery has allowed us to consistently reduce the length of our patients’ hospital stays while enhancing functional outcomes.

Joint Academy of Northeast Connecticut

We’re proud of our exceptional services and integrated team approach to hip and knee replacement surgery, and we want you to be an active part of that team. Research has shown that the more informed and active patients are leading up to surgery, the more likely they are to positively impact their own recovery and achieve the results they desire and expect. That’s why our patients who are having a total joint replacement participate in our Joint Academy of Northeast Connecticut, a program designed to provide information and education about the steps required to achieve a successful hip or knee replacement.

This comprehensive program will provide you with vital education prior to your surgery about how to prepare, what to expect during the procedure, and what you can do to aid your recovery after surgery. The program will also guide you through the PAT process and pre-surgical physical therapy.
Joint Academy education sessions are held at 2:00 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in the Robert H. Field Conference Center at Day Kimball Hospital. Patients who have been indicated for surgery are scheduled to attend a session. Members of the public who would like more information on the procedures are welcome to drop in for the session as well.
