PUTNAM, CT – April Stevens, quality risk management nurse, is Day Kimball Hospital’s February Employee of the Month. Stevens has been with Day Kimball Healthcare since 1988 and has held various positions as a nurse.

“This is a wonderful honor,” said Stevens. “There are so many hard working, dedicated and deserving employees that receive this award and I am proud to be among them.”

When Stevens began her career at Day Kimball in 1988, she assumed the role of clinical coordinator in the Emergency Department. Acting as the charge nurse, Stevens oversaw patient care and the daily operations of the emergency nursing staff. In 2001, Stevens became a part of the quality department and now has a variety of daily responsibilities to assist with the implementation of patient safety initiatives and quality monitoring. This includes coordinating regulatory surveys and data gathering as well as facilitating workgroups to educate on fall prevention, patient safety, medication safety and all national patient safety goals. In addition, Stevens coordinates the yearly patient safety and quality fairs.

“April is a team player who is always willing to help and assume other responsibilities,” said Sharon Sawyer, RN, director of quality and risk management. “She is very deserving of this award because of her commitment and dedication to the Day Kimball Healthcare community. April always has the best interest of Day Kimball in mind and is truly a valuable member of our team.”

A 1979 graduate of Worcester Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, Stevens also graduated from Worcester State College in 2000 with a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. Currently living in Dudley, MA, Stevens said, “Day Kimball feels like an extended family. I only hope to make a positive difference in the overall goals of the organization.”

In her free time Stevens enjoys cooking, walking, reading, beach trips and spending time with her family. She and her husband Michael recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and have two children together.
