Phyllis McLarney of the Maternal Child Health Department is Day Kimball Hospital's February Employee of the Month.

–Day Kimball Hospital announces that Phyllis McLarney, RN, of Maternal Child Health is the Hospital's February employee of the month. The Employee Council, a group of 20 Hospital representatives, selected McLarney as the employee of the month after reviewing various nominations from hospital management.

"This is a very exciting honor," said McLarney. "I am touched that my colleagues nominated me. We're a great team in MCH and I couldn't ask for better people to work with. Nursing is what I love to do; I love being there for others during one of the most important times in their lives."

Beginning her career at Day Kimball in 1983, Nursing was McLarney's second career, for she entered the field based on a personal experience she had with ‘wonderful' nurses at one time in her life. "A nurse at Day Kimball's pediatric center made such a difference in my life that I decided to become an Obstetrics nurse," said McLarney. Starting on Day Kimball's Medical/Surgical floor, McLarney quickly moved to the Maternal Child Health Department. Prior to her career in nursing, McLarney was a commercial artist.

"Phyllis treats everyone with respect and kindness," said Mary Ellen Snyder, Department Supervisor. "She is a caring individual and a true asset to Day Kimball Hospital."

A graduate of Three Rivers Community College, McLarney has been in nursing for 26 years. Her daily responsibilities include labor and delivery and prenatal testing. McLarney has received national certification in fetal monitoring and recently undertook a leadership role in the conversion to computerized documentation of the labor and delivery department.

McLarney currently resides in Woodstock and enjoys horseback riding.
