August 10, 2019

Saturday, August 10, 2019
9:00 a.m. start time
Black Dog Bar & Grille
146 Park Rd., Putnam, CT

Join us for a fun, family friendly event to benefit those fighting cancer in Northeast Connecticut. In addition to our 5 Mile Walk & Race, this year we are also bringing back our .5 Mile Kids Fun Run! It's a wonderful way to remember, celebrate and honor those who have battled cancer, while supporting those who are fighting their own battle now.

2019 Ambassador

2019 marks the 31st year of this event, and the NECT Cancer Fund Race and Walk Committee has selected Rich Mineo as this year’s Ambassador. Diagnosed with follicular b-cell lymphoma in the spring of 2016, Rich has been a frequent visitor at DKH. His treatment plan consisted of two years of immunotherapy which he completed in August 2018. With the expectation of needing more treatment down the road, Rich knows first-hand how important it is to keep cancer treatment in our community. He is committed to supporting the NECT Cancer Fund to help DKH in its mission to ensure that everyone in our community has access to critical cancer related health services regardless of their financial circumstances.

History of the Event and NECT Cancer Fund

This Walk and Race for the NECT Cancer Fund springs from a long history - the former annual Deary Memorial Race, Walk and Ride, which was one of Day Kimball Healthcare's and Northeast Connecticut's most popular events for more than 25 years. Over the years, the event has raised more than $1.2 million and all the money remained local, just as it does today.

Proceeds from the Walk & Race benefit the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH, which provides residents of Northeast Connecticut who are fighting cancer with financial assistance for their medical care. Additional fundraising activities to support the Fund include the Cruisin' for Cancer Care Guest Bartender Night, Cruisin' for Cancer Care Motorcycle and Classic Car Cruise, NECT Cancer Fund Wine Tasting, and Scoops Night.

Through these events, the Northeast Connecticut community comes together to remember, celebrate and honor those who have battled cancer, while supporting those who are fighting their own battle now. It is in this way that the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH is able to change lives.
