Medical Services

The Maternal-Fetal Medicine service at Day Kimball Hospital is a specialty program for both routine and high-risk pregnancies. This additional care complements that provided by the obstetricians, family medicine physicians, and midwives. The service includes both routine ultrasound imaging for most uncomplicated pregnancies as well as comprehensive assessment and care of the high-risk mother and fetus.

Day Kimball’s Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) is lead by Dr. Andrew MacKenzie, a Board Certified specialist in high-risk pregnancy, along with his team of providers whose focus is on the optimal care and outcome for the “at risk” patient.

MFM services include:

• Care of pregnant women with specific medical problems, such as:
  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • Hypertension
  • Clotting Disorders
  • Thyroid Disease
  • Renal Disease
  • Substance Abuse
• Care of pregnant women who are at risk for pregnancy-related complications, such as:
  • Preeclampsia
  • Placental Abruption
  • Preterm Labor 
  • Incompetent Cervix
  • Multiple Gestation
  • Recurrent Pregnancy Loss
  • History of Stillbirth
• Care of fetuses due to complications related to:
  • Chromosomal Abnormalities
  • Genetic Diseases
  • Congenital Anomalies
  • Growth Abnormalities
  • Amniotic Fluid Abnormalities
  • Fetal Anemia
  • Medication Exposures

Procedures and services used for monitoring and treating both uncomplicated and high-risk pregnancies include:

• First and Second Trimester Genetic Screening
• Detailed Prenatal Ultrasound (2D, 3D and 4D)
• Genetic Counseling
• Invasive Fetal Testing
  • Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)
  • Amniocentesis
  • Percutaneous Umbilical Blood Sampling & Fetal Transfusion
• Fetal Testing:
  • Non Stress Test
  • Biophysical Profile
• Surgery:
  • Cerclage Placement
• Consultative Services for all Other Aspects of Prenatal Care
