Day Kimball Healthcare provides top quality laboratory and blood draw services at four convenient locations across Northeast Connecticut. Our lab services are accredited by The Joint Commission, the College of American Pathologists, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Our laboratory at Day Kimball Hospital is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and processes all laboratory tests from across our system - over half a million tests per year. And our blood draw locations at the Day Kimball Healthcare Centers in Danielson, Putnam and Plainfield also offer experienced phlebotomists and convenient access to the full range of testing offered at our Hospital. 

Locations, Hours and Contact Information

A physician or practitioner’s order is required for all testing. No appointment is necessary; all tests are performed on a walk-in basis. However, be sure to follow any special pre-testing instructions provided by your doctor, such as fasting or taking medication a certain number of hours before your test.

The laboratory provides 24/7 laboratory testing to our hospital inpatients and Emergency Department.

Outpatient blood draw services are provided at the locations and hours listed below. All locations are closed for outpatient services on the following observed holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Our board-certified associated physicians from a contracted service provide exceptional diagnostic and interpretive services, with sub-specialties including hematopathology, molecular pathology, surgical pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, cytopathology, gynecologic pathology, transfusion medicine, and more.

Comprehensive Lab Testing Services

• Comprehensive chemistry testing, which analyzes blood and other body fluids. Examples of chemistry tests include blood tests to measure cholesterol, glucose or medication levels, urinalysis, and analysis of semen or fecal samples.
• Hematology testing, which analyzes the amount and function of blood cells and plasma. Common examples of this type of testing include the Complete Blood Count (CBC) and coagulation testing.
• Microbiology testing for the detection of bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic infections

Billing and Payment Information

Please check with your insurance carrier for details about your specific coverage, copays, deductibles and any prior authorization requirements. You will receive a bill from Day Kimball Hospital for the lab testing portion of your service, and a bill from either University Pathologists or another associated pathology provider for the professional test interpretation portion. What To Expect

We strive to accommodate patients of all ages in a compassionate and timely manner. To better serve you, please be aware of the following:

• Due to Joint Commission Standards, the laboratory will not be able to collect a specimen (blood or otherwise) without an order from your physician. If you do not have an order and one has not been faxed to us in advance, we will be unable to provide services to you until the orders are received.
• Some specialized laboratory specimens can only be collected early on weekdays due to testing requirements.
• Morning hours tend to be the busiest due to requirements for certain tests, so please keep this in mind when scheduling your day.
• Insurance information will be required at the time of service prior to all testing and may include signing an Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) if the patient has Medicare.
• If the doctor has sent the lab requisition prior to your visit or if you have standing or Oncology orders, please indicate this to the registration or lab personnel. This will help us find your order in a timely manner.
• If the reports are to go to an out-of-town physician, please have the doctor’s name and address so we can send the report as requested.
• Remember to wear loose-sleeved clothing so that we can comfortably examine your arm for an appropriate site.
• We are staffed with experienced phlebotomists but if you have a personal request or want your blood drawn from a specific site please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.
