Day Kimball Healthcare’s (DKH) mammography units at its Hospital and Healthcare Centers in Danielson and Plainfield received complete compliance status and renewal of certification by the Food and Drug Administration after a recent onsite MQSA (Mammography Quality Standards Act) inspection.

“We are proud of our mammography services team for once again receiving exceptional results during this annual inspection,” said DKH President and CEO Anne Diamond. “This accreditation validates our commitment to providing safe, high quality mammographic services to those in our community whom we are privileged to serve.”

The accreditation requires mammography facilities across the country to meet uniform quality standards that focus on equipment performance, personnel qualification, and quality control. The primary objective of MQSA is to ensure that mammography is safe and dependable and that breast cancer is detected in its most treatable stages which can lead to early treatment and an increased chance of survival.

Under the guidance of the Director of Laboratory Services and Diagnostic Imaging, Patti Bernier, a team of ten mammography technologists perform approximately 10,800 mammograms annually through Day Kimball Hospital and Day Kimball Healthcare Centers in Danielson and Plainfield.

Commenting on the accomplishment, Bernier said “Congratulations to our staff on a successful deficiency free inspection. It takes a lot of hard work every day to achieve such a distinguished report. I am proud of the efforts of our dedicated team of professionals. I am even more proud that this team has accomplished this achievement for 3-years running from 2017 through 2019.”

Day Kimball Healthcare’s Diagnostic Imaging Department provides vital mammography services to the Northeast Connecticut community while following standards of both the American College of Radiology and the federal regulations of the Mammography Quality Standards Act.

DKH’s mammography unit offers state-of-the-art technology including the latest in 3-D Mammography. The system is the industry’s first hand-held patient-assisted compression device which offers comfort features, empowers patients to actively participate in their exam, and obtains multiple images of breast tissue to give doctors a clearer picture of masses, providing greater ability to detect breast disease.
