Day Kimball Hospital Visitation Restrictions | Updated

12/28/2021

Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH) continues to take necessary steps to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses, including coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In March 2020, the health system announced the implementation of temporary visitation restrictions to curtail foot traffic at Day Kimball Hospital, and expanded temporary visitation protocols to its Day Kimball Medical Group (DKMG) and outpatient sites.

To minimize the continued evolving risks of transmission in the community, DKH is restricting visitors to all Hospital departments and waiting areas. Here is the latest information regarding DKH's visitor restrictions:

  • No visitors for Covid-positive and/or PUI (Patients Under Investigation) patients in any department.
  • Unchanged: Obstetric inpatients will be allowed one designated accompanying adult person (age 18+) during their stay. Read the full policy >
  • Pediatric Operating Room or Emergency Department patients will be allowed two accompanying adults (age 18+) during their stay.
  • Adult ACU/OR patients will be allowed one accompanying adult (age 18+).
Adult ED patients will be allowed one accompanying adult (age 18+). Swapping of visitors is only allowed when it is approved by the nurse, PA, APRN, or physician; this should be strictly adhered to.
  • Hospice patients or Comfort Measures Only patients will be allowed visitors one at a time. The restriction of one visitor can be altered at the discretion of the clinical staff; this should be strictly enforced. No family member is to be waiting in the waiting room. Family need to wait in their vehicle and enter the hospital only when the other family member leaves.
  • Patients with outpatient testing and procedures may have only one accompanying adult (age 18+).
  • Hematology/Oncology patients may have one accompanying adult (age 18+). This may be altered to include others at the discretion of the clinical team; this needs to be strictly enforced.
  • Med/Surg and ICU patients are allowed to have one adult visitor one time per day between the hours of 3:00pm-7:00pm. No swapping and only one visitor per day, strictly enforced.
  • For Inpatient Behavioral Health we will continue to restrict visitors; on rare occasions the clinical staff may make alterations.
  • Exceptions will be considered for all individuals with developmental, physical, mental and/or other disabilities.

All visitors will continue to be screened for risk factors of COVID-19. All visitors will continue to be required to wear a face covering at all times while they are in the hospital. If a visitor has high risk factors or shows symptoms of illness we will ask that an alternate visitor be identified, as this person will not be allowed in the hospital or clinical settings.

In very limited circumstances, exceptions may be made to this visiting policy at the discretion of medical and/or nursing leadership. These temporary accompaniment restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.

DKH understands these measures may create a significant hardship for both patients and families. However, DKH believes that at this time this is the best way to protect the vulnerable patients who have trusted DKH with their care.

DKH recognizes that interacting with friends and family can be helpful to the healing process and strongly encourages everyone to utilize other forms of support for their loved ones, such as phone calls, video chats on cell phones or other mobile devices.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we continue to make patient health and safety our top priority.
