Over the past few weeks, community and health care leaders and providers have written to share their perspectives on Day Kimball Healthcare’s proposed affiliation with Covenant Health.
On behalf of Day Kimball Healthcare, I would like to share some information about our affiliation with Covenant Health and respond to some concerns that have been raised in recently published letters to the editor.
As Chairman of the Day Kimball Hospital Emergency Department and Chief Medical Officer of NES Health, which manages a combination of 40 hospital emergency departments and hospitalist programs across the country, I have a unique perspective of the affiliation between Day Kimball Healthcare and Covenant Health.

Recent letters to the editor have raised concern and opposition to Day Kimball Healthcare’s (DKH) proposed affiliation with Covenant Health. As a member of the medical staff at DKH for 32 years and current President of the Medical Staff, I write to encourage our community to embrace this affiliation.
Last week, the leadership teams of Day Kimball Healthcare and Covenant Health took an important next step in our affiliation process by filing formal Certificate of Need documents with the State of Connecticut. Over the next several months, this proposal will undergo review by a number of regulatory agencies to assure that this partnership is beneficial for our community.
