Investing in the Future of Healthcare in Northeast Connecticut

Day Kimball Health has received approval for $20.2 million in Year 1 funding through the Connecticut Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) to support strategic investments that will strengthen healthcare delivery in Northeast Connecticut. 

This investment will help DKH improve access to care, expand clinical services, modernize technology and infrastructure, and enhance the patient experience for the communities we serve. Through these investments, we are strengthening our ability to provide high-quality healthcare cloes to home while helping reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for care when appropriate. 

$20.2 M in Strategic Investments Supporting 5 Key Workstreams:

• Advanced Imaging
  Investment in advanced imaging capabilities, inclusing MRI, CT and SPECT/CT, along with related improvements. These enhancements will expand access to important diagnostic services and help patients receive more of the care they need, closer to home.
• IT & Digital Infrastructure
  Investment in technology, data, and analytics infrastructure to strengthen connectivity, improve care coordination, and support a more connected healthcare experience for patients and providers.
• Oncology
  Investment in the enhancement of oncology services, to expand access to high-quality, patient center-care for the residents of northeast Connecticut.
• Convenient Care
  Investment to expand access to convenient care options withing the community, giving patients more ways to recieve care without always needing a scheduled physician appointment or an emergency room visit.
• Virtual Health & Tele-Specialty Services
  Investment in virtual health and tele-specialty capabilities to expand access to specialty care while reducing the need for patients to travel outside the region. 
  

What Happens Next

With Year 1 funding approved, Day Kimball Health is moving into the planning and implementation phase for these five investment areas. Each project will follow its own timeline based on planning, procurement, renovation, and implementation needs in coordination with the Connecticut Department of Social Services and CMS requirements.

As projects move forward, we will provides updates with milestones and progress so our community can follow the transformation taking place at Day Kimball Health.

About the Rural Health Transformation Program

The Connecticut Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) is part of a federally funded intiative administered in Connecticut by the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS). The program was created to strenghten healthcare in rural communities by improving access to care, supporting better health outcomes and helping create more sustainable models of healthcare delivery. 

Connecticut received $154 million in federal Year 1 funding through the program, which supports projects across the state focused on population health, healthcare workforce development, data and technology, and care transformation and stability. 

Day Kimball Health's $20.2 million Year 1 award supports projects included in Connecticut's Rural Health Transformation Program plan and must be used in accordance with federal and state requirements. 

This project is supported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $20.2 with 100 percent funded by CMS/HHS.
