Route 44 Road Closure May Impact Travel to Day Kimball Hospital
06/26/2026Day Kimball Health is advising patients, visitors and community members to plan for extra travel time beginning in July as the state undertakes a road project on Route 44 in Putnam.
Beginning June 29, message boards will be posted in the area to notify motorists of upcoming detour information. Road closures are expected to begin July 13, when the Connecticut Department of Transportation will begin work to repair a retaining wall along Route 44 near the Cargill Falls Mill site.

All Day Kimball Health locations will remain fully open and accessible throughout the project. This includes:

- All Day Kimball Medical Group offices
- The Heart Group of DKH
- General Surgery
- Maternal Fetal Medicine
- Nurturing Families Network
- WIC
Services, appointments, and emergency care continue without interruption.
We encourage you to:
- Watch for state detour signage for guidance on approved alternate routes
- Allow extra travel time when heading to any DKH location on Route 44, particularly for scheduled appointments
- Contact us ahead of your appointment if you have concerns about access
Emergency Access is Unaffected
Emergency services have a designated access route to Day Kimball Hospital that will remain fully operational throughout this project. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 9-1-1.
