Day Kimball Health (DKH) has named Brian Blackmar, facilities groundskeeper, as its September Employee of the Month in recognition of his dedication, strong work ethic and 20 years of service to the organization.
Blackmar joined Day Kimball Health in October 2006 and is responsible for maintaining the exterior grounds of the organization’s campus. With 28 years of experience in groundskeeping and horticulture, he brings extensive knowledge and a strong commitment to creating a clean, welcoming environment for patients, visitors and staff.
Known for his reliability and dedication, Blackmar consistently goes above and beyond in his role. Much of his work takes place behind the scenes, but its impact is visible throughout the campus and appreciated by those who visit. His efforts help create a positive first impression and contribute to an environment that reflects the values and pride of Day Kimball Health.
“Brian’s dedication to keeping our grounds beautiful is evident in everything he does. When we hired him 20 years ago, we thought we would need a backup plan for days when the weather made working outside difficult, but Brian will don his foul-weather gear and move forward to get the job done; he is unstoppable,” said Bob Andrews, Director, Facilities Management. “He takes great pride in his work and the results speak for themselves. Our grounds are often one of the first things patients and visitors notice when they arrive, and Brian helps make that first impression a positive one. We’re fortunate to have someone so dedicated to our team and our hospital.”
“Every member of our team plays an important role in the experience we provide for our patients and families,” said Kyle Kramer, CEO of Day Kimball Health. “The care and attention Brian brings to our grounds help create a welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors. We recognize that the patient experience begins long before someone enters an exam room, and Brian’s work is an important part of that experience. We’re proud to recognize his contributions and his 20 years of service to Day Kimball Health.”
When asked about being selected as Employee of the Month, Blackmar said he was both surprised and honored by the recognition. One of the aspects he enjoys most about his role is the opportunity to spend each day working outdoors.
A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Blackmar earned an associate’s degree in horticulture. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a commitment to excellence and service.
Born and raised in Putnam, Blackmar now lives in Pomfret with his wife and their daughter. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and pursuing his passion for the outdoors and landscaping.
