The Next Generation of Robotic Knee and Hip Replacement Surgery Right Here in Northeast CT

Day Kimball Hospital’s medical director of orthopedic surgery Dr. Kevin Reagan along with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Biren Chokshi hosted an event for DKH staff and the community to “Meet Mako®” – a viewing of DKH’s new Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology – at the Hospital on Thursday, June 20.  

Stryker’s Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted Technology is an innovative solution for those in need of knee or hip replacements. Using a 3D virtual model of the patient’s unique anatomy and a robotic arm, Mako helps surgeons execute a pre-determined surgical plan and perform joint replacement surgery.

At the event, staff and community members received a behind the scenes look at the robot as specialty trained Mako-certified surgical team members demonstrated a mock surgical plan for a knee replacement using 3D virtual modeling. Attendees also had the opportunity to step into the surgeons’ shoes and trial the robotic-arm themselves as they experienced first-hand the stability and precision the technology provides for a more accurate placement and alignment of the implant.
