Gyuljan Tahirova, registered nurse (RN), for Day Kimball Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has been named employee of the month for March by Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH).
Tahirova, who has been a nurse for eight years, began working for DKH in March 2016. In her role as charge nurse and staff nurse in the ICU department, Tahirova provides care at the patient bedside and is responsible for the assessment and care of the hospital’s intensive care patients.
According to Tahirova’s supervisor, Carolina Starr-Manning, Director of Critical Care and Cancer Services for Day Kimball Healthcare, “Gyuljan has made a significant impact by putting patient and staff safety above all else. She has repeatedly and consistently reorganized her home life and vacation times to cover open holes on multiple nursing units. In the words of her colleagues she epitomizes what it means to be a team player and team advocate.”
In response to being named employee of the month Tahirova said, “I was pleasantly surprised! I am grateful for this nomination and to those who found me worthy to receive this esteemed recognition. I am thankful for the support I receive from my colleagues and supervisors every day. While this nomination is addressed to me, their efforts in making this possible should not go unrecognized.”
When asked what she likes most about her job, Tahirova said, “I wanted to do something with my career that is challenging, interesting, and makes a difference in people’s lives on a daily basis. In the nursing profession you deal with many aspects of patient care, and I enjoy the variety in the routine. I am very fortunate to work with such wonderful people and be a part of a great team. DKH’s ICU department is an amazing place to work.”
Tahirova was born in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, former Soviet Union. She now resides in Pomfret, Connecticut with her husband Aziz Tahirov, her two daughters, Sybal and Camilla, and her son Alvin. Tahirova earned her associate’s degree in Nursing from Cumberland County College in Vineland, New Jersey and earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Wilmington University in New Jersey.
Tahirova has been selected as one of ten DKH nurses to receive the organization’s Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing this year, and will be honored at a banquet for all of eastern CT’s Nightingale Nurses on Thursday, May 2. This statewide nursing recognition program honors nurses for their exceptional contributions to the profession.
Day Kimball Healthcare’s employee of the month program is sponsored by Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. “The Mashantucket (Western) Pequot Tribal Nation and Foxwoods Resort Casino has been focused on taking care of the people that serve within our community, and we appreciate everything Day Kimball Healthcare does,” said Foxwood’s Director of Sponsorships and Partnerships Roy Colebut-Ingram. “Supporting meaningful employee recognition programs like that at DKH is just one way that we feel we can express our appreciation.”
