Donation to Support Day Kimball Healthcare COVID-19 Response Fund
An 11-year-old Northeast Connecticut girl heeded the call to help her local hospital during the coronavirus pandemic, emptying her piggy bank to donate her savings to Day Kimball Healthcare.
Felicia Desabota, who loves animals, had been saving her birthday and chore money for a dog. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in early 2020, she realized her $100 would be better spent protecting healthcare workers and patients at Day Kimball Hospital.
“Since COVID-19 started I saw a lot of commercials that were saying to donate money to your local hospital, even if it’s only a few dollars, it could save lives. After learning that people were dying from coronavirus, I decided to donate my money to Day Kimball Hospital,” said Felicia.
So Felicia made a card and sent her life savings to Day Kimball. In her card, she thanked the healthcare workers who were caring for patients during the pandemic and explained that she wanted to be the start of change in the world.
“I would like Day Kimball Hospital to take my money and buy masks, hand sanitizer, gloves and any other equipment they need to keep people safe,” Felicia said.
Watch Now:
Felicia’s mom, Enrica Desabota, says “Felicia is always looking for places that she can help out and make someone else’s life a little better. I was extremely proud of her when she came up with the idea to donate to Day Kimball Hospital.”
Felicia says she is considering a career as a vet so she can help animals just like the nurses and doctors at Day Kimball Healthcare help people.
Felicia’s contribution will support Day Kimball Healthcare’s COVID-19 Response Fund, established to provide critical supplies, equipment and resources in response to the pandemic.
“We are so thankful to Felicia for her thoughtful and generous contribution,” said Kristen Willis, director of development, Day Kimball Healthcare. “Her compassion and generosity show that age does not limit kids from making a difference in the lives of others. Youngsters like Felicia are a beacon of hope and inspiration to us all.”
