Media Advisory: Day Kimball Healthcare Responds to Calls Regarding Medical Staff
March 25, 2020
Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH) is receiving a high volume of telephone calls pertaining to certain medical staff at Day Kimball Healthcare. Under strict confidentiality laws, we are not permitted to share any staff or patient information. However, the hospital can confirm that all providers currently seeing patients, including those in the Ob/Gyn and MFM practices, are currently symptom free. Patients (especially obstetrical) should be encouraged to follow-up with their provider to ensure they are receiving all necessary care.
Day Kimball Hospital previously confirmed that one of its obstetrics and gynecology physicians was diagnosed with coronavirus disease COVID-19 on March 19, 2020. Following CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and Connecticut State Dept. of Health guidance (DPH), DKH notified the Northeast District Dept. of Health, and the provider was removed from patient care immediately.
Each of the patients and staff who interacted with this physician were identified and notified and are being managed in accordance with the CDC and CT Dept. of Health protocols.
“If a member of our staff becomes infected with COVID-19, they will be placed on leave and will not be allowed to work for the protection of our patients, staff and community according to CDC protocol,” said John Graham, MD, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Quality and Medical Affairs.
“It’s understandable that people in our community are concerned, but please know that the well-being of our patients, visitors and staff is our top priority, and that we will keep you up to date with the latest information during this rapidly-changing situation. And as chief medical officer, I am concerned that patients may avoid or change their appointments which may negatively impact their care, and in this case pre-natal care. Stay in contact with your provider is my best advice.”
