From diagnosis to treatment to follow-up care, our top physicians, cancer specialists, certified nurse oncologists and therapists work together to provide you a completely personalized treatment plan.

Our cancer care services include:

  • Screening and Diagnosis

    We work hard to confront cancer well before any diagnosis of this challenging disease. Day Kimball’s state-of-the-art imaging services include a wide variety of sophistocated technologies including clinical breast exams and mammograms, bone density tests, prostate cancer screenings, colonoscopies, low-dose CT lung cancer screenings, genetic testing for those with a family history or high risk of cancer, and more.

  • Outpatient Cancer Center

    Our hematology/oncology unit at Day Kimball Hospital’s Cancer Center provides compassionate, first-class cancer care right here in Northeast Connecticut. 

    Our Cancer Care program, which has received national accreditation with commendations from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), provides patients the same care as large cancer centers, but close to home. 

    Your cancer care team is dedicated to providing you with expert, compassionate care specific to your unique needs. Our board-certified medical oncologists, surgeons, certified oncology nurses, nurse navigator, pharmacists, dieticians, therapists, social workers, and others work together to provide you with the highest level of personalized care in a convenient and comfortable environment.

  • Nurse Navigation

    When you come to Day Kimball, you get more than a doctor. You get an entire team. Your nurse navigator will guide you every step of the way, starting from the time of diagnosis, through your treatment and recovery — so you can worry less and focus your energy on getting well. 

    Serving as your advisor and advocate, your nurse navigator acts as your main point of contact and is there to help coordinate your appointments and provide you with education and support. She can get you connected to financial assistance resources, support groups, social services, and much more.

  • Surgical Services

    Our highly skilled surgeons and state-of-the-art facilities offer the highest-quality surgical cancer care using the latest in robotic and minimally invasive techniques. Specializing in breast, gynecology, colon, rectal, lung, urology, and more, our surgical team provides a wide range of surgical services for cancer patients should you need surgical intervention.

  • Supportive Services and Complementary Care

    Cancer affects more than just your body; it affects your whole life. That’s why we provide a holistic approach to your treatment complete with a host of supportive services and complementary therapies right within our Cancer Center. Our registered dietician nutritionist provides nutrition monitoring and guidance to complement your treatments. Our hospital-based food pantry supports cancer patients struggling with food insecurity. Our oncology social worker will connect you to appropriate community resources to resolve any logistical, financial or social challenges that people often face while fighting cancer. We also host cancer support groups and workshops for you and your caregiver, physical activity programs, and more.

  • Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH

    The community of Northeast Connecticut graciously and generously supports our Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH, which provides financial assistance for cancer-related screening and treatment services. Any member of our cancer care team can help you access the resources available.

  • We believe that every patient has a right to:

    • A specific diagnosis within a week of a suspicious biopsy
    • A prompt appointment with an oncologist with whom he or she feels comfortable, when referred by a primary care practitioner, surgeon or other specialist for evaluation of suspected cancer
    • A second opinion
    • A copy of medical records, including pathology report
    • Information about condition and treatment options in language the patient can understand
    • Knowledge of the scientific evidence behind the doctor's treatment recommendation, and the strength of that evidence
    • Information about the benefits and risks of a particular treatment, including the benefits and risks of not having the treatment
    • Information about clinical trials
       

    Public Reporting of Outcomes
    As an accredited cancer care program by the Commission on Cancer, Day Kimball Hospital reports annually on the patient experience and outcomes at our Cancer Center for particular cancers. These reports are below.
