The Woman’s Board of Day Kimball Hospital (DKH), in partnership with the Putnam Business Association (PBA), Putnam Economic and Community Development Office, and Day Kimball Hospital, held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the re-dedication of the Hospital gift shop on Tuesday, November 19.

The Shop, located just through the Visitor’s Entrance at Day Kimball Hospital, recently underwent a renovation and expansion project and has brought in exciting merchandise for the holiday shopping season.

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, guests and visitors had a chance to tour the freshly renovated space and browse new offerings at the gift shop.

The Shop originally opened in 1951 and has been operated and managed by dedicated members of the Woman’s Board of Day Kimball Hospital ever since.

The Shop is one of many ways the Woman’s Board raises funds needed to enhance the quality and services of Day Kimball Hospital. “All proceeds from our gift shop go back to the hospital, so it’s very exciting to see how our newly renovated gift shop is helping our community by helping the hospital,” said Valentine Iamartino, president, Woman’s Board of Day Kimball Hospital.

Currently, the Woman’s Board is working to fulfill a three-year, $200,000 pledge, in support of room renovations to the Hospital’s Burdick Family Birthing Center. Most recently, monies were raised to support an updated BabySafe Monitoring System for the Maternal Child Health department located within the Hospital’s Birthing Center.

At the ceremony, Putnam Business Association Coordinator, Sheila Frost, presented a plaque to The Shop in commemoration of the rededication and in recognition of Day Kimball Healthcare’s 125th anniversary.

A ceremonial ribbon was cut by Woman’s Board President, Valentine Iamartino. “I am thrilled to share our remodeled gift shop with our community,” said Iamartino. “It’s the best kept secret in Northeast Connecticut. We would love for our community to embrace and use our gift shop as a destination shopping experience.”

Sentiments were also shared by Delpha Very, director, Putnam Economic and Community Development Office, Joseph Adiletta, interim president, Day Kimball Healthcare, and Senator Mae Flexer.

The Shop at Day Kimball Hospital is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is located on the main floor of the Hospital at 320 Pomfret Street, Putnam.
